In regards to the original vision of the three Masterplans, I would say that the school has managed to achieve the Ministry's four main goals of:
- Enhancing linkages between the school and the world around it, so as to expand and enrich the learning environment.
- Encouraging creative thinking and lifelong learning.
- Encouraging innovative processes in education.
- Promoting administrative and management excellence in our education system.
In Evergreen, every class room is equipped with its own internet cable and high definition projector. As such, teachers can bring in their own laptops and connect to the internet during lesson time when needed. This has proven very useful when showcasing videos off the internet or online presentations through web resources such as Youtube or Prezi. Students are also encouraged to share and submit any relevant or interesting findings off with web with their classmates through the school's online portal. The process of innovative teaching and creative thinking and is thus very much evident in the school.
Additionally, there are also four computer labs in the school and as per above, each computer comes with its own internet connection, enabling students to conduct online research during during lesson time and hence, enhance linkages between the school and the world around it.
Admin-wise, the school is also well-equipped to handle any technical difficulties that may arise during school hours. There are three onsite IT officers who are always available to help the teachers should the equipment in the class or staff rooms turn faulty during school hours, thereby fulfilling the last goal of promoting administrative and management excellence in our education system.

Hi Judy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting up the prezis and videos that you used in your teaching. They are very awesome. :)
I'm glad that your school is doing well in terms of developing ICT for learning. One of the interesting points you raised was "Students are also encouraged to share and submit any relevant or interesting findings off with web with their classmates through the school's online portal." Was wondering if you can elaborate more on this: is it subject/class-based, or is whatever is posted available to every student in the school? I was also wondering how many students utilise this form of information sharing (how widespread it is as an ICT tool).
Also, what you've mainly mentioned are the positive aspects of the school's ICT development, like achieving four main goals of the MOE ICT masterplan. Are there challenges that the school faces, or what are some of the school's future plans to improve it's ICT?
-Melissa :)
Hello! I am wondering what are the markers for measuring if one has achieved the goal of "encouraging creative thinking and lifelong learning"?

Hey Judy!
ReplyDeleteEvergreen is fortune to have such "up-to-date" facilities. Sadly, not every school has such privileges.
I feel that one of the challenges which school faces is the problem of plagiarism, as mentioned by you during your presentation. Many of the students are lazy. They blindly copy content wholesale off the internet, regardless of whether the information they copied is relevant or not. They do not know how to sieve through the mountains of information on the web. At least that's what I experienced during my contract teaching.
It is also awesome that the students have an online portal!! It is like a work-related facebook for them to share and communicate with one another. But would the students without internet access at home feel left out? I guess that's the sad thing about ICT, the less privileged are not as "included" as others.
